Coboconk Lions Citizen of the Year

Picture

Each Year the Coboconk and District Lions Club awards Lions Citizen of the Year to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Community. The current recipients Margy Taylor and Jamie Burton meet those criteria and more.

Citizen of The Year - 2019
In April 2011 two Individuals came to Norland to start a new Business – well not really start a Business, but to breathe new life into a Restaurant that was slowly dying. Slowly but surely the new venture took root and the word got out about the good food and fair prices to the point where reservations were required. In addition to stimulating the local economy, The Riverside provided a new venue where individuals could meet, enjoy camaraderie and excellent cuisine.

But Citizen of the Year is not awarded for starting a successful business. From the start Margy and Jamie knew it was not enough to take from the Community, but important to give back and support the people of the Community. During the past eight years the Riverside has consistently supported the area by providing gift certificates for all manner of Community endeavors including Loonie Auctions, silent Auctions and prizes for Special Events. They also financially supported the restoration of the Norland Cenotaph.

When Norland no longer provided Ice at the local Arena, Jamie built and maintained an outdoor Rink on their property which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. It was great to see people walking down the street, skates and hockey stick over their shoulder heading for the outdoor Rink. At the Annual Lions Sleigh Ride The Riverside provide the Hot Dogs for the Event. When the school Buses arrive on Tuesday during the School year the children head for The Riverside to enjoy treats compliments of the Restaurant.

It is obvious that the Riverside Inn understands the importance of Community life and the need to  support it.
For that reason, I am pleased to present the 2019 Citizen of the Year Award to Margy Taylor & James Burton of the Riverside Restaurant, in Norland.

Unfortunately, Margy and Jamie were not able to attend our annual Lions Spaghetti Dinner/Silent Auction; as always, it was an extremely busy work night at the restaurant.  Committee Chair, Lion Murray Walker, visited the restaurant the following week to congratulate Our Lions Citizens of the Year for 2019 and present the award.
